Bhagat Singh and his revolution

For those who love their nation their cannot be anything greater than the respect of their motherland, today we are talking about such a lover who even after his death continue to inspire youth for sacrifice. Bhagat Singh was born in a Punjabi family his upbringing was heavily influenced by his father’s library, which housed a vast collection of books on politics, history, and revolutionary literature. It was here that Bhagat Singh delved deep into the works of thinkers like Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, and Mahatma Gandhi, which laid the foundation for his ideological development. This article discusses the revolutionary idea of Bhagat Singh.

We have already discussed the rise of revolutionary activities in India in our article the rise of revolutionaries . Gandhi Ji’s NCM received full cooperation from revolutionaries but sudden withdrawal of NCM after Chauri Chaura incident created a situation of confusion especially revolutionaries after sudden withdrawal of NCM were not sure of success through non violence. Similar was the condition with Bhagat Singh, after recall of NCM he joined the Young revolutionary movement and the radical Hindustan Republican Association. In the year 1928 he was involved in Lahore Conspiracy case, where DSP J.P Saunders was killed by Bhagat Singh and other members of HSRA. In the very next year he was involved in the central Assembly bomb case with Batukeshwar Dutta, both of them were easily arrested as none of them tried to escape. It would be right to say that both surrendered as per the plan.

The Real problem-

Though revolutionaries were successful in their armed struggle against the government but the real problem was the propagation of revolutionary ideas to the masses. Due to rise in revolutionary activities British government took repressive measures against the printed revolutionary materials. Fearful of repressive press legislation and punitive fines many publishers were unwilling to help the revolutionaries. Whenever HSRA managed to raise enough funds to publish their ideas it was quickly labeled seditious and proscribed.

Bhagat Singh Knew that trial would be transcribed and duly reported in the press, hence he wanted to use this as an opportunity to propagate the ideas of the organisation. Before Joining HSRA Bhagat used to write critical articles against the British government, he also used to explain the need for armed struggle to overthrow the British government. Bhagat Singh because of his talent of oration was chosen for assembly action and this was the reason both Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutta did not tried to escape after throwing bomb in central legislative assembly.

The Court proceedings-

After arrest Bhagat Singh and other members of HSRA were tried for Lahore conspiracy case. Throughout the court proceedings, the accused that is Bhagat Singh and other members made their socialist politics clear through frequent sloganeering, particularly ‘long live the revolution’.

As per Bhagat singh ‘by revolution we mean that the present order of things, which is based on manifest injustice must change.’

Bhagat singh along with Rajguru and Sukhdev was hanged on 23 march 1931.
