The war was fought on the icy heights of the Kargil region of Ladakh.
The war was started by Pakistan when it infiltrated into Indian territory and occupied several strategic peaks.
The Indian Army was able to defeat the Pakistani forces and recapture all the occupied positions.
More than 500 Indian soldiers martyred during the war.
Four war heroes were awarded Param Vir Chakra.
